Thanksgiving Feast or Bloat?

Thanksgiving is next week- WHOA! If you have been marching steadily along with your nutritional plans and exercise don't let this holiday season derail you. Like most Americans you are probably planning on meeting with family and friends and pigging out. I know, I know, its only one day but depending on how much you pack away you could be putting down as much as 4500 calories!

Let me give you my quick list: turkey, ham, roll, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, glazed carrots. cranberry sauce, eggnog, wine, cheesecake, apple crisp, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and pecan pie

Eat all that and you put away over 4500 calories in one meal! That's more than you need for 2 days! But I will do a nice exercise routine or go for the family walk to get rid of it all. Not so fast, you will need to exercise for more than 10 hours to burn all that off.

That's a long time and I'm not sure we all have that in us especially after eating all that food.

You know I never say don't eat or don't enjoy food, but think hard about what you really want and is that extra serving what you really want or are you just eating to eat.

There are also wise choices you can make at the table as well:

Choose :

Turkey over ham

Vegetable that are plain rather than in a casserole form.

Avoid gravies

Have a sampler plate at dessert rather than multiple piece of pie or cake

Limit your alcohol consumption

Drink more water
